As mentioned before, Trish and I went to
Deauville to party. I'd decided to spare no expense, and splurge. We booked
the most expensive hotel in Deauville, the Royal Barrier. When we arrive,
we were met by the parking attendant, who would park our miserable Renault
Espace next to the 2 Ferraris, 10 Porches, 2 Rolls Royce, and a gaggle
of Jags.
While
entering the revolving doors of the hotel, we managed to put an older gentleman
off-balance. He had one leg in a cast and was walking with a cane. He was
not to pleased.... and when we looked, we saw that the gentleman in question
was no-one other than French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo.....
While checking in, we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel had upgraded
us to a superior deluxe room overlooking the ocean. Well, we were not complaining.

So far so good. After a little walk, we went to the next door Casino to
have a look at the function room where the night's meal would be held:

Not too shabby. 600 people had reserved and the room was 100% booked. Trish
then decided that she did like the place they had reserved, and she played
her Irish charm on the Maitre and got us a table close to the show. That's
the Irish for you.....
Trish went back to the hotel to prepare for the evening. I stayed to try
to win back the money I had spent. Stupid mistake !! After loosing a fortune,
I decided to hightail my sorry ass back to the hotel.
The evening was going to start at 21:00, and at 20:30 we were as ready
as we would be.

After arriving at the Casino, we were served champagne and little snacks.
Finally, we were allowed into the room and found our newly reserved table.
(since I didn't want to take my camera with me, I used my telephone's
camera, so the following pictures are not world's best quality):

The band started playing at 21:00, and continued nonstop until 23:00; They
were a very good band, playing all sorts of music, and managed to set a
good ambience. People were dancing in between the courses;

Our meal was nonstop eating past midnight. I will not bore you with all
the course we had, but needless to say, I put up another kilo. And the
dancing did not help put them off:

Finally at 23:30, they started a show. The show was not something to write
home about, specially when you've seen shows like the Lido in Paris. But
it was short....

At midnight, we had the usual kisses and hugs and singing.

We finished and were back in bed at around 2 am.
The following day we spent walking a bit, and lunching at the excellent
Drakker restaurant. And then we headed home for some peace and quite.
Have a great 2006 everyone !!
