Today was a serious day in the pool project, they were going to dig the pool. It was a bit doubtful that it was going to happen, since they had forecasted rain, but as usual, they were off the mark, and it remained dry but cold.

There are 43 photos and 1 video link, so if you're reading this via the front page, either click on the headline to get the whole article, or click on "continue reading"... after the 1st photo.

At 8 in the morning, you could hear the diesel engines roaring

The digger had arrived...

Pool-02-02.jpg

We held our breath when it went over the concrete threshold of the gate... would it hold..?

Pool-02-03.jpg

It gently went over the car lane that leads to the garage, and everything remained intact..

Pool-02-04.jpg

The terrain had been scooped out the previous day, so all it had to do was stay inside the white lines..

Pool-02-05.jpg

First thing was the remove the plants and trees that were going to be replanted... the first one..

Pool-02-06.jpg

Followed by the plum tree...

Pool-02-07.jpg

It went up with roots and all

Pool-02-08.jpg

It required some manpower to move with the digger...

Pool-02-09.jpg

Pool-02-10.jpg

and finally it went to the other side, with 4 man requiring to carry it...

Pool-02-11.jpg

... and finally the fur tree went...

Pool-02-12.jpg

Pool-02-13.jpg

Pool-02-14.jpg

... no more trees...

Pool-02-15.jpg

Next the digger changed tools...

Pool-02-16.jpg

He had to dig a trench for the pipes coming from the technical shed where the pumps will be located..

Pool-02-17.jpg

Ahhhh... concrete, and lots of it...

Pool-02-18.jpg

Pool-02-19.jpg

No mercy, it got shredded...

Pool-02-20.jpg

Eventually, we had a trench for the pipes..

Pool-02-21.jpg

Now the serious digging could start..

Pool-02-22.jpg

A tractor & trailer arrive to move 30 M3 for use for the gardener, which had to be moved to the other side. Their normal tractors were to heavy for the job..

Pool-02-23.jpg

This one is smaller and lighter...

Pool-02-24.jpg

It was filled and the clay moved ot the other side.

Pool-02-25.jpg

In the mean time, the hole got bigger...

Pool-02-26.jpg

A nice mountain of earth on the other side...

Pool-02-27.jpg

Making sure that they don't dig too deep..

Pool-02-28.jpg

Next, the bigger tractor & trailer arrived... the fit was just about right to get through the gate..

Pool-02-29.jpg

Pool-02-30.jpg

Continuos measuring...

Pool-02-31.jpg

The fur tree ready to get replanted...it did loose a lot of its roots...

Pool-02-32.jpg

"Can I dive into the pool?"

Pool-02-33.jpg

Now they're using laser measuring devices ot get it right...

Pool-02-34.jpg

Deeper and deeper

Pool-02-35.jpg

The 2nd mount of clay to be used to redo the grass...

Pool-02-36.jpg

Pool-02-37.jpg

... the last bits...

Pool-02-38.jpg

THE POOL !!!!!

Pool-02-39.jpg

The equalized the ground after the digger....

Pool-02-40.jpg

The pool from the other side

Pool-02-41.jpg

The digger, at 15;30 returned back home... mission accomplished

Pool-02-42.jpg

... and the street got sweeped and cleaned...

Pool-02-43.jpg

Then the lads marked off the interior where the actual swimming pool will rest (you can see the lines)

Pool-02-44.jpg

... and all this under the watchful eye of the master foreman (woman), Beemer (right top corner)

Here's a video of the digger in action. Click here to watch it.
