Today Trish and I went together with our
friends Christine & Jean-Charles Duboc and Sylvain Beuzelin to the
annual herring feast of Fecamp.
This big herring party is thrown every 3rd weekend of November by the city
of Fecamp, and involves a lot of smoked herring eating, and live music.
This year was no exception. Every year, the party gets bigger and bigger.
Today the weather was reasonably sunny, but cold. There were loads of small
stalls selling local food, and a lot of herring smokers/BBQs.
The smell of wood smoke was in the air,
and could be smelled miles away.
First we went and ate oysters in one
of the tents, together with brown bread and wine.
The oysters cost €6 for 12,
including the wine and bread. They were very fresh...
Inside a building were long tables were you could eat your smoked fish
and listen to several musical groups play mostly Celtic music.
You could be served, or you could go
outside and buy your own at one of the stalls.
The music was done by several bands
that alternated. One band while playing was joined by another and jammed
Celtic music.
Everyone enjoyed this afternoon out
despite the cold weather. Stamping
feet and clapping hands soon warmed us up.
You
just had to watch out that you didn't eat too much.
