Today was the day the concrete was going to get poured into the pool. The lads came early in the morning to prepare the grounds, get their tools ready, and than early in the afternoon, the roar of diesel engines could be heard in our tiny village:
Two big concrete mixers had arrived (and if you think it's overkill having two, think again, since they ran out....)
Getting the one with the pump in was going to be challenge since it was quite big, thankfully, its front four wheels turned, giving it a better turn radius.
After a lot of up and down, it finally made it through the front gate.
Biiiiiiig
Next, the other cement truck backed up into the garden, not an easy task.
The two trucks kissed & made up.... one poured cement into the other, that then pumped it into the pool.
The whole width of the garden was taken up by the two trucks.
The lads put on their rubber boots, something they were really going to need.
The pump and tube were remotely controlled by the operator would could walk around the pool, making sure the cement arrived where it was supposed to arrive.
The tube arrived above the pool, without hitting the electricity lines above... too bad, they are an eyesore. I asked if the operator could "accidently" bump into them, but he refused.
The lads went down into the pool, getting ready for the "deluge"...
With a rattle, the concrete came flowing down the tube into the pool, forming the pool bottom.
In a good harmony, the tube was manually and remotely moved from one end to the other.
The pool bottom filled up quickly, 10 minutes...
Done
Now, the walls have to be filled. They need to place wooden planks to walk on around the pool.
A balancing act to fill the walls...
Two on the plank
One of the lads was hitting the walls with wood to make the cement go down properly.
In the mean time, the walls were being filled.
All around the pool, until the last two meters, were they ran out of cement. The rest was filled from the bottom... by hand.
Carefully, the truck left the garden...
The cement was compacted by pushing it in.
Then the bottom got equalized...
Almost looks like there's water in there. Tomorrow they come to clean the walls. Next week, an enormous truck will come to fill the sides with stones to keep the pool walls in place once the water goes in.
