Christine and Jean-Charles had thrown Trish a special birthday lunch for the day of her birthday, and we really enjoyed it. But the following day, I took Trish out for a special birthday treat to a 2-star Michelin restaurant in Rouen called Gill.
The Gill restaurant is located alongside the Seine river in Rouen, and has a great reputation. Gilles Tournadre, the chef, is known for an innovative approach towards cooking, so I booked a table for lunch.
The restaurant has just reopened after the spring holidays.
It was half full...
They even put a candle on one of the deserts... (we had 2). Here is what we had (we ordered the Menu de Degustation - Tasting Menu). This consisted of 7 courses....
We started with two Amuse Bouches 'fun for the mouth):
- Mouse aux Asperges (Asparagus mousse) and Goat Cheese mousse - Tomato gazpacho and ice chilled cucumber
For starters we had 2 courses:
- Foie gras with asparagus and persil sauce - Langoustine gazpacho
The main meal was also two courses: - Duo of sole with an incredible citronelle sauce - Veal with potato puree & truffles
This was followed by a selection of cheese and a great green salad and then a grapefruit sorbet.
For desert we had: - A mille feuille (1000 layer pastry) with a hazel nut sauce - Pistachio ice cream on a bed of raspberries
and of course coffee/tea with nice sweets.....yummy!
And here is Gilles in front of his restaurant. If you ever have the chance of going through Rouen, and want to eat at a top establishment, this is a highly recommended place.
